Occupational therapy (OT) helps individuals gain the skills they need to participate in the activities of everyday life, also known as "occupations." A child participates in many daily occupations including play, taking care of oneself (getting dressed, using the toilet, eating), and activities required in school such as handwriting. Vermont OT Connections provides strengths based, family focused consultation as well as individual and group direct services to address child and family goals.
I am a pediatric occupational therapist with 13 years of experience working in Vermont elementary schools. I earned my Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010. My husband and I moved to Vermont shortly thereafter and feel so lucky to be raising our two children here. Outside of work I love skiing, biking, and spending time with family and friends.
I have always enjoyed working with children and seeing the world through their lens. I have provided services to individuals from ages 3-15 as an occupational therapist. I'm passionate about collaborating with caregivers to help them understand a child's challenges and working to strengthen their connection to their children.
I have completed the Vermont Interdisciplinary Leadership Education for Health Professionals Program (VT-ILEHP) at the University of Vermont, focusing on Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. I have additional training in the areas of sensory processing and self regulation, Handwriting Without Tears, assistive technology, continence, handwriting, and trauma informed practices.
Pediatric occupational therapists have a holistic and client centered approach to working with children and families. The goal of therapy is to help children and families participate fully in activities they identify as important in their life. Occupational therapists look at the child as a whole person, across all environments, and use everyday activities to help build skills.
Vermont OT Connections focuses on collaboration with parents and other individuals in a child's life (such as childcare, outpatient or school providers) to help understand a child's strength and challenges, and then works on goals identified as meaningful to the child and family. Individual and group work with the child is also available, as well as evaluations as requested. An initial introductory consultation is offered free of charge so families can assess if this is the right fit for their child. Services are offered throughout Chittenden County and are flexible and tailored to each family. Some examples of service delivery:
At this time Vermont OT Connections does not directly bill insurance. Please contact us for more information on rates. If rates are a barrier for your family, a sliding scale for fees can be offered. After services have been rendered and payment has been made, a monthly receipt for you to submit to your insurance company can be provided.
